WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
After many years of practicing and teaching Watsu, I began to notice a paradox: people can respond very differently to the same session.
A receiver who appears tense and resistant may later say, “I have never been more relaxed.” Another may move freely throughout the session and yet describe an experience of complete surrender.
These observations led me to look beyond what I could see on the surface.
Inspired by Eastern philosophy, particularly Taoism and the Five Elements, I began to recognize five recurring patterns in the way receivers respond in the water. These became the foundation of Watsu of the 5 Elements.
In this course, you will learn to identify these five patterns and understand the physical and emotional qualities associated with each one. You will explore different sequences and approaches that give you practical tools for responding to the individual needs of the receiver.
THE EXPERIENCE
Watsu of the 5 Elements invites you to move beyond simply performing a learned sequence.
A standard sequence may work beautifully for one person but may not be appropriate for another—or even for the same person at a different moment in the session.
You will learn to observe, listen and adapt your movements, touch and support according to the receiver's responses. Rather than imposing a technique, you begin to allow the session to develop through a dialogue between practitioner and receiver.
We will also explore five approaches to the body in the water: how to communicate, encourage, support and balance the receiver through gesture, movement and presence.
The Five Elements become a map—not a formula—helping you develop the sensitivity and intuition to meet each receiver where they are.
The practice invites us to listen as much as we act.
